RNTP was initiated by: Birgit Hopfener (University of Heidelberg), Franziska Koch (University of Heidelberg) and Kerstin Schankweiler (Free University Berlin). An executive committee acts as a decision making body. Its members are elected every other year during the biennial gatherings of the network.

RNTP is currently funded by and associated to the DFG-Research Unit FOR 1703 Transcultural Negotiations in the Ambits of Art. Comparative Perspectives on Historical Contexts and Current Constellations at Free University Berlin.
